Silver-screen Milestones
Koisuru kairiki shoujo, Jupiter-chan
25. "The Powerful Lovesick Girl, Jupiter-chan"
It's hard to make the claim that one is a true Sailorjupiter fan without having seen this episode. After all, this is how it all began. Our favorite brunette saves Usagi from a gang of thugs, meets the other two senshi (only she doesn't know it yet), and gets caught in a brawl with Zoisite and his next target. We are first introduced to her notorious lovestruck side and her bravery in fighting situations. The best part, though? Watching her awakening as a senshi and her first use of Supreme Thunder.
Daikonsen! Gucha gucha koi no shikaku kankei?
29. "Total Chaos! The Messy Love Square"
Makoto helps establish her reputation as a lovesick dreamer yet again. We witness her perseverance in love when she cleans Motoki's apartment and cooks for him only to find out that he is dating a tall, beautiful college student. Even still, the silly, strong-willed side of her personality is unleashed, and it's sure to make you giggle.
Youma to pair? Hyoujou no jouou Mako-chan
39. "A Pair with the Youma? The Queen on Ice, Mako-chan"
Poor Makoto loses her heart to another love-not-meant-to-be in this one. Two youma-possessed ice skaters under the direction of Kunzite target Makoto because they think that she might be the moon princess. There are plenty demonstrations of Makoto's grace and strength (including when she surprises Misha by lifting him above her head ^^).
Mou koikara nigenai! Ami to Mamoru taiketsu
41. "I Won't Run Away from Love Anymore! Ami and Mamoru Face Off"
Don't let the title fool you. This episode has plenty of great Makoto moments. It paints a great picture of her friendship with Ami and demonstrates her wisdom in love. And her hand-to-hand spat with Endymion is nothing to scoff at, either.
Shiroi baraha dareni? Tsukikage no knight toujou
49. "Who's the White Rose For? The Moonlight Knight Appears!"
This episode not only gives us some awesome combat scenes, but it also introduces us to Shinozaki, one of the men in Makoto's life. We learn a little more about Makoto's heartbreaking confrontation with her senpai and the friends she had at her old school.
Tsukikage ha Seijuurou? Moeru Mako-chan
55. "Is Seijuurou the Moonlight? Mako-chan Firing Up"
Makoto shares many thoughts of love and affection in her hopeless quest to snare Seijuro's heart. If for nothing else, this episode is worth watching for the Supreme Thunder Dragon sequence.
Koi no Ronsou! Minako to Makoto ga tairitsu
65. "Dispute about Love! Makoto and Minako's Argument"
Minako is often credited as Makoto's best friend in the anime, and episodes like this show you why! The two spend an afternoon together shopping, checking out boys, arguing, and making up again. Mina and Mako are so cute when they bicker! The two girls also fight Petz and Calaveras and receive their power-up attacks: Love Me Chain for Sailorvenus and Sparkling Wide Pressure for Sailorjupiter.
Reikokuna Uranus? Makoto no pinch
96. "Cruel Uranus? Makoto's Pinch"
We get to see a deeper side of Makoto's personality and her struggle with femininity in this episode. The plot focuses very much on Mako as a normal girl, rather than just her alterego. The infamous Uranus versus Jupiter argument is spawned as well, particuarly when the two senshi spar. But this is a nice one to see for the caring, feminine-conscious side of our rough heroine.
Power ga hoshii! Mako-chan no mayoi michi
105. "I Need Power! Makoto's Lost Way"
Makoto no Yuujou! Tenba ni akogareta Shoujo
134. "Makoto's Friendship! A Girl Attracted by Pegasus"
This episode introduces us to Takase Tomoko, an old friend of Makoto's from her old school. We get to see via flashback a little bit of Makoto's life before she came to Juuban, and how her softer side existed amongst all the rumors that made her leave. This episode showcases Makoto's abilities to see beauty in unknown places and to encourage and comfort her friends.
Unmei no Partner? Makoto no Junjou
147. "A Partner in Destiny? Makoto's Pure Heart"
This episode reveals more about Makoto's interaction with men than perhaps any other in the anime. She becomes the target of Tiger Eye's plot and inevitably falls in love with him. We watch as she puts her heart first and ultimately suffers for it--the affair is obviously one-sided, but poor Makoto refuses to let her sliver of hope slip away. These scenes also give us potential clues for how she approached her relationship with her senpai. But after the heartache, we still get to see the new "Super Supreme Thunder."
Yume Taiketsu! Minako to Makoto Zekkou Sengen
154. "Confrontation Between Dreams! Break-up Announcement by Minako and Makoto"
This episode puts Makoto in her element--cooking, sewing, and taking care of little kids. It is really sweet to watch her interact with all the things she dearly loves. The dynamic of Makoto's and Minako's relationship is showcased once again, as well, and it's cute to watch them work together, bicker, and ultimately make up.
Ai Yueni! Hateshinaki Makai no Tatakai
171. "For the Sake of Love! Endless War in the Evil World"
The anime has been ignoring Sailorjupiter for quite a while now, but episode 171 delivers. The senshi become separated when sucked into Nehellenia's nightmare. Most senshi are paired in groups of two and must fight together to find Usagi, who has fallen breifly under the evil queen's spell. Sailorjupiter finds Usagi first and is left to battle Nehellenia alone. We really get to see Sailorjupiter's dedication and strength as a warrior in this episode--she really lives up to her title "the senshi of protection." It is also worth noting that while the other senshi must battle the queen's reflections, Sailorjupiter takes on Nehellenia herself, and she absorbs the full force of the queen's rage to protect Usagi.
